This project estimates the economic impact of visitor spending at Asheville Tourists baseball games on Buncombe County. Economic impact analyses examine the net economic changes in an area that results from an attraction or an event. The focus of an impact analysis is on visitor spending that would not have occurred if the event had not taken place. Tourism is a major industry in the Asheville area that provides government revenue and supports jobs for many local residents. This analysis estimates the impact of a local attraction that is not often considered a tourist destination using expenditure surveys collected at McCormick Field. The expenditure data was evaluated using Impacts for Planning (IMPLAN) software, a primary analysis tool used to conduct economic impact studies. It is estimated that visitor spending at Asheville Tourists baseball games in 2014 benefited Buncombe County’s economy by nearly $400,000.
